Live heart rate

Note: this part of the app comes with a licence. The free edition covers injections.

The app can read your heart rate live from a Bluetooth band while you train, including the Fitbit Air and most chest straps.

Connecting

  1. Go to Health → Live heart rate and tap Connect.
  2. Allow Nearby devices (and Location on older Android versions).
  3. Pick your band from the list.

The reading updates every second or two. A small pulse shows each new reading, and "updated Xs ago" tells you if it has gone quiet.

Fitbit Air: turn on "Always visible"

Fitbit devices only share heart rate over Bluetooth when this is on. In the Google Health or Fitbit app, open your device settings and turn on Always visible, sometimes listed under heart-rate sharing. Without it, the app connects but no readings arrive.

Connected but stuck on one number

The band isn't reading your pulse. Wear it a finger's width above the wrist bone, snug but comfortable, and make sure the sensor touches skin. Tap Details to see whether the band reports skin contact.

Details and Reconnect

Details shows what the band is sending: connection state, skin contact and the last few readings. It's the fastest way to see what's wrong. Reconnect starts the connection again.
